The AMERICAN CELLO INSTITUTE'S (ACI) purpose is to promote string performance and pedagogical ideals (focused on but not limited to the cello and cellist), and to preserve, archive, and research sheet music, instruments, recordings, and video. ACI furthers the cause of music making and scholarship in the areas of performance and pedagogy through the creation of new editions, re-mastered audio and visual recordings and organized seminars and festivals.

In addition to scholarly pursuits ACI operates within a larger, more universal perspective through its major project, the International Chamber Orchestra of Puerto Rico. The ICOPR connects children and communities in underserved areas of Puerto Rico and abroad with music and artists from diverse nationalities through annual festival tours of free concerts, educational events, young artist fellowships and televised programming.
